Aussie relatives visit "Dad's" Fountain restoration

Karen Glen and her daughter Rebecca flew in from Australia and came to see the restoration of the fountain paid for by her father Frank Nelson, Old Royal, in memory of his wife Gwen.

Karen and Rebecca (left) are seen here with Mike Masters, Chairman of the Old Royals Association and a Foundation Trustee (right) and Douglas (Dougie) Craig.   Mike and Dougie were close friends of Frank having been at "The Royal" at the same time.

Frank Nelson, who moved to Sydney Australia, made a major donation covering all the costs of renovating the fountain in front of the Senior School building, in memory of his late wife, Gwen.  Sadly, Frank died before it could be started, so a plaque will be placed on the fountain base remembering both of them and Frank's generosity.

Karen and Rebecca came to the UK in mid-January 2022 when the weather was a bit different from Sydney and Perth where they each live.  They were delighted to see the Fountain in its colourful glory after being so well refurbished and were particularly impressed with the craftsmanship shown and the attention to detail.  They also visited the Chapel, which was remembered so fondly by Frank Nelson.  They lunched in Clarence House, along with the Boarders, Old Royals Association Chairman David Dyke, School Principal Mark Heywood and Peter Hill, Chair of the Foundation's Trustees.

Further details of the restoration project can be found at Fountain refurbishment project.
